"Candy Gold" — Fast Packaging Design for Nillo Cakes

"Candy Gold" — Fast Packaging Design for Nillo Cakes

In business, there are fortunate situations where seizing an opportunity requires lightning-fast decision-making. A few years ago, due to certain geopolitical circumstances, the import of some confectionery products from abroad came to a halt. An empty niche appeared on the market. In such a moment, you can either act immediately and occupy the shelves, or sit on the sidelines and watch your competitors' sales boom. "Candy Gold" didn't want to be a spectator. They decided to quickly fill this void with their new Nillo cakes featuring chocolate, raspberry, and banana fillings.

  • Packaging design

1. Problem and Task

Our task was to create packaging to quickly launch the product on the market. There was no time to develop a full-fledged, complex design taking months—the market wouldn't wait! The product was perfectly suited both as a quick snack for schoolchildren during recess and for office coffee breaks.

What should a design look like in such a situation to both catch the buyer's eye and be as easy as possible to manufacture?

2. Research

This is exactly where the most powerful weapon in marketing and design came to our rescue—proper brand positioning. When a new product is rushed to the market and people don't know it yet, the buyer always has a slight doubt: "What's inside? Is it soft or already stale?"

Our insight was this: the fastest way to win a new buyer's trust is to show them exactly what it is. Since our cake is indeed soft, appetizing, and has a beautiful golden hue, we decided to openly demonstrate this exact advantage right from the first step. This way, the customer gets to know the new product up close, without any barriers.

3. Solution

That's why we decided not to hide our sweet treat at all. We developed the packaging in a minimalist and transparent style. The transparent film clearly shows how the product is baked, displaying its soft sponge. Meanwhile, the white, large, and easily readable "Nillo" lettering catches the eye even from a distance.

  • Openness is the best advertising: Thanks to the transparency, the customer has no doubts like "what's inside there?". They saw it, believed it, and bought it! Such openness is the most correct and reliable position for quickly introducing a new product to the market.
  • Additional details: To prevent these cakes from looking like just another cheap snack, we added a golden effect to the edges of the packaging. After all, since the brand is called "Candy Gold," the product itself simply must look premium.

Result

Ultimately, "Candy Gold" didn't waste a single minute. They were among the first to occupy the emptied shelves and instantly won the buyers' trust by not hiding the real appearance of their product. Transparency once again proved to be the fastest and most reliable tool for communicating with the customer. And when the time came, the market was studied, and high demand was confirmed, a full-fledged, powerful new packaging design for this product was also developed right here in our agency (read more).
