MakPlast – Branding and Packaging Design for Plastic Products
In Uzbek culture, the beshik tuy (cradle ceremony) and the preparation of sarpo (traditional gifts) hold a very special place. Baby bath sets, traditionally gifted by the in-laws, are an integral part of this tradition. In this project, we developed packaging design for such sets from the MakPlast brand.
1. The Problem and Task
Previously, these products were typically sold wrapped in stretch film, which created several issues:
- Exposed plastic did not convey a sense of safety and hygiene to parents.
- The presentation significantly reduced the perceived value of a gift intended for a beshik tuy.
Our main objective was to move away from the “stretch film” format and create packaging that is both suitable for traditional gifting and competitive on modern e-commerce platforms.
2. Research
Before starting the project, we analyzed modern consumer lifestyles and product features.
Many young families live in compact apartments, where storing bulky plastic bathtubs is inconvenient. The MakPlast product solves this problem with a foldable transformer design that saves space. Additionally, it is made from safe materials suitable for babies.
The design therefore needed to emphasize functionality and safety, clearly communicating that this is not just a basic tub, but a smart and practical solution.
3. The Solution
We created a design focused on clarity and sales efficiency:
- Color Scheme: three variants were developed — soft pink (for girls), mint (for boys), and gray (universal). This simplifies decision-making for buyers.
- Design Navigators (USPs): key features were highlighted using icons: “4-in-1 / 3-in-1”, “0–18 months”, “safe”, “compact folding”, “hypoallergenic”, “heat retention”, “odorless”.
- Visual Instructions: side panels display folding mechanics and included components (bathtub, bucket, scoop, support) using clear 3D visuals.
The Result
The MakPlast product evolved from a standard market item into a modern, premium-positioned brand. The packaging improved perceived value, made it suitable for gifting, and enhanced performance on e-commerce platforms.
Key consumer concerns — safety and space-saving — were effectively addressed through design.
