1. Task

A household appliance brand approached us with two new vacuum cleaners. Our task was clear: create packaging that instantly communicates the product’s strengths, stands out on shelves, conveys a sense of quality, and clearly showcases technical advantages.

Key considerations included:
  • Vacuum cleaners have complex features such as filtration, power, and motor functions—all of which needed to be communicated simply and clearly.
  • Packaging is the customer’s first interaction; it must effectively "sell" the product.
  • The design had to appeal equally to end-users and retail partners.

2. Research

We studied competitors' packaging designs and noticed a common pattern: many boxes appeared dull and cheap, failing to visually build trust or clearly communicate the product’s value. Brands investing in clear, visually appealing designs instantly stood out. These products attract more attention and sell significantly better, especially in offline retail environments, where packaging is the primary communication tool with customers.

Our key insights:
  • Color and composition are critical (up to 85% of customers rely on visual cues).
  • Icons are read faster and build more trust than lengthy text descriptions.
  • Premium visual appearance directly translates to consumer confidence.

3. Solution

We designed two distinctive packages:
  • A purple package symbolizing cleanliness and softness.
  • A dark-gray package reflecting power and technological sophistication.
The overall style is restrained, confident, and clean. Visually, we emphasized large, clear images of the vacuum cleaners, easy-to-understand icons, and prominent branding. Everything can be comprehended within seconds. We clearly highlighted key advantages: 2000 W power, HEPA H13 filter with 99.9% filtration efficiency, 350 W suction power, and more.

Icons are accompanied by explanations in two languages. The packaging’s side panels include diagrams illustrating the vacuum’s structure and components. This approach simplifies understanding, removes doubts, and accelerates purchasing decisions.

Packaging materials were also strategically selected. We used dense cardboard with matte lamination and selective glossy finishes (for images and logos), enhancing premium perception and protecting the product. Internally, components are compactly and securely placed, ensuring safety and stability—crucial for appliances.

Result

From the first days, the product achieved strong sales. Consumers quickly understand product benefits directly from the packaging, reducing the need for detailed inquiries. This streamlined the sales process, benefiting both consumers and salespeople.

Retail partners have noted that Selva’s packaging looks more premium and modern than competitors', making it easier to secure shelf space and accelerate product promotion.
