Doctor Ali — Dietary Supplement Packaging Design for the US Market
As our wise proverb says, “A parent's blessing is God's blessing.” Following this wisdom, the founders of the famous Fergana-based company, Mehrigiyo, named their new sub-brand “Doctor Ali” in honor of their father. With such pure intentions, the product quickly expanded beyond the local market, making its way straight across the ocean to be sold in the United States.
For the MINIM team, this project wasn't just another job; it was a matter of national pride.
1. Problem and Task
When it comes to consuming dietary supplements and vitamins, Americans are the undisputed world champions. Meanwhile, as you know, we are the champions of eating plov! But here’s the most interesting and smile-inducing part: the ones selling vitamins to these American champions are our very own Uzbeks from Mehrigiyo. Impressive, right?
However, when the product entered the world's largest marketplace, Amazon, a problem surfaced. Doctor Ali’s old design looked a bit too simple, scattered, and "cheap" for the demanding and picky US market. In a highly competitive environment, the packaging felt like showing up to a grand wedding wearing old galoshes.
Our task was to completely overhaul the client's initial sketches, unify the design into a cohesive, premium style, and elevate the product's true perceived value through its packaging.
2. Research
We started from the inside out, diving into the product's true value. Doctor Ali wasn't just some run-of-the-mill vitamin brand. It was backed by authoritative certificates proving it passed the strictest international standards:
- USDA Organic
- Halal
- EU Organic Bio
- NON GMO
With "medals" like these, you can confidently walk into any market with your head held high.
But as the saying goes, people judge a book by its cover. If such high quality and prestigious certificates are wrapped in a plain, cheap-looking package, buyers will naturally have doubts. Even if a box is full of gold, a flimsy cardboard exterior will make people hesitate. American consumers primarily buy with their eyes. Therefore, we needed a clean, trustworthy visual solution that would outshine even the most expensive brands on Amazon's shelves.
3. Solution
Within the scope of the project, we created a new visual identity for four products:
- Detox Clean
- Multivitamin
- Antistress
- Omega 3-6-9 — fish oil-based
The White Canvas
First of all, to make the brand name and logo pop, we chose a clean white color as the primary background. A white canvas is a universal symbol of medical sterility, trust, and a premium feel.
Meaningful Patterns
We developed specific patterns for each product based on its ingredients and purpose. For example, if you look closely at the Omega 3-6-9 packaging, we used a geometric pattern resembling fish scales to signify fish oil. Following the same logic, the Detox, Multivitamin, and Antistress products also received individual patterns that reveal their true essence.
Order and Precision
On the front of the packaging, we placed custom icons that instantly communicate the product's purpose. All texts were written in English. But we didn't just make the "facade" look pretty. We paid special attention to the typesetting on the sides and back of the box. Instructions and USPs (Unique Selling Propositions) were laid out with millimeter precision, strictly adhering to typographic rules and a modular grid.
Result
Wearing its new "outfit," Doctor Ali began to step even more confidently across the Amazon marketplace. The well-thought-out design paid off 100%: the product's perceived value sharply increased in the eyes of buyers, and the prestigious certificates and natural ingredients were finally perfectly matched with the visual aesthetics.
Most importantly, our client was so pleased with the work and approach of the MINIM agency that they didn't hesitate to entrust our team with the design of their upcoming new projects.
